Bobby Jones Golf Club
Bobby Jones is Sarasota municipal golf, and after a long closure and a full rebuild it reopened as something considerably better than that phrase usually implies. The club was dedicated to Bobby Jones in 1927 and now offers 18 holes of championship golf on the Ross Course plus a nine-hole adjustable course named for John Hamilton Gillespie, the first mayor of Sarasota.
The adjustable nine is the unusual part. Rather than a fixed par-three course, the Gillespie is set up to be played at different lengths, which makes it useful for a beginner, for a junior, and for anyone who wants a short round after work rather than a four-hour commitment.
There is a City of Sarasota resident discount programme, so what you pay depends on where you live. The club is managed by Indigo, and The Nature Park at Bobby Jones occupies the surrounding land. For a buyer weighing a club membership against paying as you play, this is the course that makes the second option realistic in Sarasota.
