Tatum Ridge Golf Links
Tatum Ridge is a Ted McAnlis design east of Sarasota, laid out in a links style through preserved wetland rather than cut into a housing tract. It is public, it is not attached to a gated community, and it is one of the straightforward answers for a buyer who wants to play regularly without buying into a club.
The practice ground is better than the course size suggests: a large grass tee box rather than mats, plus a practice trap, a chipping green and a putting green. The club runs a Men's Golf Association, and there is a phone on the ninth tee so you can order food at the turn, which tells you most of what you need to know about the pace and the atmosphere.
Tee times can be booked by phone up to seven days ahead or online ten days ahead. Rates are not published on the club website; call the golf shop for the current ones rather than trusting a third-party quote.
