Everything Coming to UTC Sarasota in 2026: New Restaurants, IKEA & More
University Town Center is adding a wave of new dining and retail — from James Beard-nominated chef Chris Ponte's two restaurants to IKEA's sixth Florida location. Here's the full rundown of what's opening and what it means for the area.
University Town Center has quietly become the dining and retail epicenter of Sarasota-Manatee — and 2026 is its biggest year yet. Between James Beard-nominated chefs, a new IKEA, and a half-dozen fast-casual concepts, the UTC corridor is about to feel like a different place. Here's everything confirmed and what it means if you live (or are thinking about living) in the surrounding communities.
The headline: IKEA is coming this summer
IKEA announced its sixth Florida store at 147 N. Cattlemen Road, directly at UTC, opening late summer 2026. At 48,000 square feet, it's a smaller-format store — more than 5,000 products on display, 3,000+ items for immediate takeaway, fully furnished room settings, a planning area for one-on-one consultations, and yes, the Swedish deli with meatballs, cinnamon buns, and the rest.
For homeowners in the area, this is a practical win. The nearest IKEA today is Tampa (an hour-plus drive). Having one at UTC means the entire Palmer Ranch, Lakewood Ranch, University Park, and Bradenton corridor gains a major home-furnishing resource without the I-75 trek.
Two of Tampa's best restaurants arrive at UTC
James Beard-nominated chef Chris Ponte is bringing two concepts from Tampa's Hyde Park to UTC in 2026. Olivia is a 6,500 sq ft modern Italian trattoria with a wine vault, open pasta- and pizza-making stations, and an expansive bar. On Swann is approximately 5,000 sq ft of approachable contemporary American dining. Both are going in on North Cattlemen Road.
These aren't chain restaurants filling empty space — they're destination-caliber concepts that chose Sarasota over other Florida metros. That says something about where the market is heading.
Summer 2026 openings already confirmed
Beyond the big names, UTC has a full slate of new openings rolling out this summer:
- Mister 01 | Extraordinary Pizza — artisan pizzas and salads, opening next to Mission BBQ in The Market at UTC
- Zoto — a new izakaya concept with sushi, Japanese small plates, premium sake, and craft cocktails
- Blu Kouzina — Greek restaurant in the West District
- Florence and the Spice Boys — modern Middle Eastern fusion, opened April 28 in the West District
- Zen Dumpling — handcrafted dumplings, bao buns, and wok dishes in the Shoppes at UTC near Marshalls
- Just Salad and Playa Bowls — fast-casual health-focused concepts
- Pure Green — cold-pressed juices and superfood smoothies, next to Pure Barre
Why this matters for real estate
Dining and retail density drives home values — that's not opinion, it's well-documented in real estate economics. UTC's transformation from a traditional mall into a mixed-use dining, shopping, and entertainment destination has direct implications for every community within a 15-minute drive.
Palmer Ranch, University Park, Lakewood Ranch's western villages, and the Bradenton University Parkway corridor all benefit. When buyers relocating from the Northeast or Midwest ask me what the lifestyle is like day-to-day, UTC is usually the answer that surprises them — they expect beaches, but they don't expect this caliber of dining and retail.
The bigger picture: UTC is still growing
The additions above are just this year's slice. UTC has over 160 retailers and restaurants today, and the surrounding corridor continues to densify with new medical offices, fitness concepts, and professional services. Combined with the Sarasota Square redevelopment a few miles south (Whole Foods, HomeSense, CAVA, and 160,000 sq ft of street-level retail coming in 2027), the entire south Sarasota to UTC corridor is becoming one of the most complete live-work-dine-shop zones on Florida's Gulf Coast.
